Weiner's Circle Weiner’s Circle
(2015)
transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) “Weiner’s Circle” was inspired by a reference photo taken at Emerald Downs of their Weiner Dog Races (crowd entertainment and laughs between races.) I don’t know if this dog won anything, but I think his owner’s arms are the real prize.

(2015)
mixed media $100 (matted and framed) This painting is worked over an “ice painting” start.
10877576_747382265353229_171587586_n Targus (2015) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) This is one of two paintings I did “on commission” for a friend (who was giving it as a gift.) The friend liked “simplicity” and “detail” and “blue”. She provided me with a variety of photos from her Facebook page of my subjects. This is Targus

rp_eyecontact-300x186.jpg Eye Contact (2014) transparent watercolor on Yupo $150 (matted and framed) This painting was inspired from a reference photo I took while on a dolphin discovery adventure on Kona. This particular spinner dolphin came close and made eye contact, even slightly turning his belly toward me (a sign of friendship.) It was an awesome moment.
"Wilson" - 2013 Wilson (2013) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) I’ve noticed that using friends’ Facebook pictures of their pets as painting fodder is something of a theme for me. This is Wilson, shop dog at my friend JJ’s awesome shop, Wynona Studios (sadly, now closed). Wilson is a small dog with a big dog personality and we are friends without being too mushy about it (he’s a regal guy). I saw the photo of him in this pose with the hardwood floor behind him the perfect artistic start and knew I had to paint it.
"Thunderbird" - 2013 Thunderbird (2013) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) In the summer, turkey vultures glide along the cliffs beyond my house, endlessly riding the thermals in search of food. While not the prettiest of birds up close, I’ve always like these “garbage men.” While California Condors are often considered the inspiration for the “Thunderbird”, when turkey vultures twist against the sun, their primary features glow white. One day I saw one near a broken tree and was inspired to craft this painting.
"Milkway Fisherman" - 2013 Milky Way Fisherman (2013) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) 2013 for me was the “Year of the Osprey”. There were several active nests on my commute and a couple more on regular hike paths. My family has always liked ospreys and for me they are a very special bird. When thinking about this I decided to try a painting technique taught by Harold Walkup to make the whites really glow. The fish were inspired by the salt resist.
"Mule Deer" - 2012 Mule Deer (2012) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) In 2012 I took a painting seminar over in Eastern Oregon. Deer are everywhere. This little doe peaked up at me in a shady pasture on my way home.
"Scarlet Maccaw" - 2011 Greenwing Macaw (2011) transparent watercolor $50 This Greenwing Macaw was actually a class project (Melissa Gannon). I really liked how it turned out; each time I see it I’m reminded how much small color changes can make a difference.
"Egret" - 2012 (Artist a Day Project) Egret
(2011)
transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) My mom took a photo of an egret entering flight; when I was selected for the “Artist a Day” program, I decided my piece would demonstrate a pour. I needed a project I could complete in a single day, and a white bird with a colorful, soft background seemed perfect. I was pleased it sold in the end auction.
"Purple Alpaca" - 2011 Purple Alpaca (2011) transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) I painted this purple alpaca on a whim. I had taken the reference photo on a trip up to Hood River and I liked the black and white contrast of his colors. But on this day, black and white seemed a little tame. Thus, “Purple Alpaca” was born.
"Flamingo" - 2011 Flamingo (2011) transparent watercolor $50 “Flamingo” was inspired by a trip to the San Diego zoo. When viewing real flamingos, I was amazed how little “pink” really had to do with their color.
Bodie - 2010 Bodie
(2012)
transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) A friend of mine briefly showed me a picture of her dog, Bodie, at play. At the time I was experimenting with “pours. ” I loved the expression on Bodie’s face and thought the water would make a good experiment.
pelican Pelican (2010) transparent watercolor $25
"Mika" - 2009 Mika
(2009)
transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) This is my friend Lea’s cat, Mika. Mika is a shy cat. I have never met her. But when I saw this photo of her, I was inspired.
"Joey" - 2008 Joey
(2008)
transparent watercolor private collection (nfs) Joey was my African parrot. While I wouldn’t say he posed for me, he certainly expressed his opinion about my creative process.
